RARE UNIVERSAL STUDIOS MONSTERS FRANKENSTEIN – 12 Inch Poseable – Signed By OLUF W. HARTVIGSON – NMIB
FRANKENSTEIN “12 Inch Poseable” by UNIVERSAL STUDIOS MONSTERS: Frankenstein is a 1931 American pre-Code horror monster film from Universal Pictures directed by James Whale and adapted from the play by Peggy Webling (which in turn is based on the novel of the same name by Mary Shelley), about a scientist and his assistant who dig up corpses to build a man animated by electricity, but his assistant accidentally gives the creature an abnormal, murderer’s brain. The resultant monster is portrayed by Boris Karloff in the film.
The movie stars Colin Clive, Mae Clarke, John Boles and Karloff, and features Dwight Frye and Edward van Sloan. The Webling play was adapted by John L. Balderston and the screenplay written by Francis Edward Faragoh and Garrett Fort with uncredited contributions from Robert Florey and John Russell. The make-up artist was Jack Pierce. A hit with both audiences and critics, the film was followed by multiple sequels and has become arguably the most iconic horror film in history.
In 1991, the Library of Congress selected Frankenstein for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
ABOUT THE PIECE
Released in 2000 by Sideshow Toy, the 12 Inch Poseable FRANKENSTEIN (sculptor signed copy), was designed to recapture the vintage feel of the original Frankenstein…complete with cloth outfit and lab accessories. As a 12″ figure, this version of FRANKENSTEIN displays really well…although not many of these have been taken out of the factory packaging and displayed: this is definitely a collector intended piece. And for those who follow Sideshow Toy, or any of the high end toy makers in existence today for that matter, know that they all use the talents of World Class sculptors to design their products. In this case, Sideshow Toy commissioned legendary sculptor OLUF W. HARTVIGSON for this particular rendition of the Famous FRANKENSTEIN. So it’s befitting that the piece bares his signature, and this one in fact does.
For me, this particular sculpt by OLUF W. HARTVIGSON, captures the true essence of FRANKENSTEIN from the original movie (clothes and all). A true testimony to his incredible talent. Having his signature on the piece takes it to a another level, even though it’s one of those pieces that isn’t extremely rare in its production form, OLUF’s signature gives the collectible a much higher value indeed.
Like you’ve read on other listings before, this is one of those pieces I’d rather didn’t sell…and would remain in our personal collection. What value do you put on collector items you really love, even when money is not the driving force for the sale and release of that which you enjoy more than money? Good question, it’s one we’ll be asking ourselves if we let this go too cheaply!
