THE WOLF MAN by UNIVERSAL STUDIOS MONSTERS – “Glow In The Dark” Lon Chaney Jr. – MISP
The Wolf Man by UNIVERSAL MONSTERS: During the 1940s, Universal released The Wolf Man (1941), with Lon Chaney Jr. The junior Chaney became the studio’s leading monster movie actor in the 1940s, just as his father had been two decades earlier, supplanting the 1930s’ Karloff and Lugosi by a wide margin in terms of the number of leading roles that he played. Chaney Jr. physically resembled his father apart from usually being somewhat overweight, which the senior Chaney never was. The studio dropped the “Jr.” from the junior Chaney’s billing almost immediately to confuse some in the audiences into assuming that this was the same actor.
ABOUT THE PIECE
Sculpted by Oluf W. Hartvigson: Released in 2001 by Sideshow Toy, THE WOLF MAN GLOW IN THE DARK – Lon Chaney Jr., was intended for display in lighted display…where it could glow and show amazingly in a glass case after the light source was removed. I’d venture to guess though, that not many of The Wolf Man glow edition figures sold are displayed like this today, and I am certainly glad that this example wasn’t opened. And for those who follow Sideshow Toy, or any of the high end toy makers in existence today for that matter, know that they all use the talents of World Class sculptors to design their products. The Wolf Man Glow In The Dark Lon Chaney Jr. Edition will not disappoint!
The Wolf Man Glow In The Dark Lon Chaney Jr. Edition is not an overly rare piece, but it is a must for any Universal Studios Monsters collector. However, The Universal Studios Monsters GLOW IN THE DARK WOLF MAN is one of only three glow in the dark releases for the Universal Monsters (Series One), the Series Two was never released. In this series one release, The Wolf Man joined The Mummy and the very difficult to find Frankenstein…making the set of the three extremely desirable and even harder to find complete. In our collection, we’ve got this particular example MISP (mint sealed in package), and one we have displayed in a LED lit glass case, that haunts our showroom after the lights are turned off. I for one, love the novelty of the glow in the dark luminescence variety of these Sideshow Toy releases for UNIVERSAL STUDIOS MONSTERS, and before I’m through, our showroom will be displaying all of the classic monsters behind lighted glass. Cool factor of 10!
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT OUR PHOTOS: All pictures of this collectible, including the glowing version in the gallery, are of “the actual” item itself. Every single product photo on RETRO100.com, is of an item WE HAVE IN STOCK – we never use photos from other sites!
Although I don’t see this particular figure skyrocketing in value over the near term, it will have timeless value for collectors of the UNIVERSAL STUDIOS MONSTERS releases forever. Let’s face it, without UNIVERSAL STUDIOS and their monster movies back in the late 50’s and early 60’s, nobody today would even know what a movie monster was! So the classic monsters and creatures of from UNIVERSAL STUDIOS will always have their highly desired place in American history…and collector’s stashes!
